An anti-terrorism court judge, his wife and two children were shot dead in the Syrian Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, police said.
Justice Aftab Afridi was on his way to Islamabad with his family when his car was attacked at the crossroads of Anbar, said Swabi regional police officer Mohammad Shoaib.
He said police were investigating whether the murder was intentional or otherwise. Judge Afridi's bodyguard and driver were injured in the attack.
Police have taken the bodies to hospital. The area was closed and a search was launched for the suspects.
Kamran Bangash, KP's deputy prime minister for details, said CM Mehmood Khan himself was monitoring the investigation.
Justice Afridi was sent to the Swat anti-terrorism court two months ago. Swat Bar Council has announced a protest against his assassination on Monday.
